Lyman Insurance is built on a simple idea: insurance works best when the agent understands the client’s real world.
Jim Lyman grew up in a Connecticut farm family and spent years working in a multi-faceted agricultural business before entering insurance in 2003. That experience shaped how the agency works today. We ask practical questions, look closely at the operation, and focus on coverage that matches the actual risk.
Whether you operate a farm, run a business, manage employees, own commercial property, maintain vehicles and equipment, or need personal insurance for your home and family, our job is to help you protect what matters and avoid expensive surprises.
Our mission is to create well-informed clients by taking the time to understand their needs, explain their options, and build insurance programs that manage risk in a cost-effective and practical way.
Coverage Review
We review current policies, limits, deductibles, exclusions, schedules, endorsements, and potential gaps.
Risk Control
We help clients think through claims prevention, property protection, liability exposure, employee safety, vehicle use, and business continuity.
Claims Advocacy
When a claim happens, we help clients understand the process, communicate with the carrier, and work toward a fair and timely resolution.
Long-Term Planning
Insurance needs change over time. We help clients adjust coverage as they buy property, expand operations, add employees, purchase equipment, transfer assets, or plan for retirement.
James R. Lyman has been an insurance agent since 2003. Before entering insurance, he spent years working in his family’s historic Connecticut farm operation, including wholesale, retail, and golf operations. He is a graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Agricultural Economics and a minor in Pomology.
Jim’s background gives him a practical understanding of farm operations, family businesses, property, equipment, employees, liability, customer traffic, seasonal risk, and the need to control insurance costs without weakening protection.
Today, Jim works with farms, agribusinesses, commercial businesses, contractors, homeowners, and families throughout Connecticut and the surrounding region.
